I’ve always wanted to record a Christmas album because of my wonderful memories, old and new, shared during this time of year. My very first tour was the first time I had ever been away from home. My mother sent my favorite home-made Christmas cookies & little gifts, but it just couldn’t replace being “Home for Christmas,” and this song took on a whole new meaning for me. I think of all the G.I.’s away from their loved ones, this season and my heart goes out to them. Among my favorite Christmas songs, I close the album with “Silent Night,” which I sang to all the troops, while touring with Bob Hope. I’ll always remember them singing along with me and the tears we all shed, wishing we were Home for Christmas too!
